Kits for Manufacturing

Many manufacturers use kitting as an integral part of their Lean Manufacturing process. Kitting simplifies the production process by consolidating multiple items into a single part number. Instead of handling dozens of different parts from different locations and spending time retrieving each from inventory, the manufacturer retrieves one item (the kit) that contains all of the parts needed for the production run.

Since kits are delivered to the factory floor in a quantity matching the production run, the efficiency of the manufacturing/assembly process is improved. The “matching quantity” practice also makes it easier to spot possible problems in the finished product piece count.

Kitting also adds to accuracy of the production process. Prior to delivery, each kit is inspected and digitally weight-checked by a third party to ensure that it contains the full list of components, eliminating the need for duplicate kit inspection on the manufacturing floor. Through our JIT delivery program, we can reduce the customer’s cost of in-process inventory.

The administrative cost savings of kitting can also be significant. Rather than issuing dozens of purchase orders to multiple suppliers and processing the paperwork related to receipt and payment, CustomKit Pro customers are able to eliminate unnecessary and costly clutter from the procurement process. They issue ONE purchase order for ONE item number (the kit) and negotiate ONE price. Best of all, they maintain only ONE point of contact – with CustomKit Pro.All kits we produce are customized to meet specific customer needs. Some involve only customer provided parts, while others require a range of items sourced by us. In most cases, CustomKit Pro functions as a single source for both procurement and kit assembly. The result is a simplified and streamlined purchasing process involving only one part number – that of the assembled kit.
